As the year comes to an end, it’s a good time to recognize that 2021 has been a big year for change in social media land. It can be really difficult to keep up with, even for those of us who work in it every day. Think outside the box
In the time of content marketing, 2022 is going to be a year of thinking outside the box! It’s no secret that organic engagement has tremendously dropped for business accounts across many social media platforms over the past 2 years. It’s important to remember that consumer habits have changed due to the pandemic. It’s time to change with them. Try a new platform, dip your toes into mediums such as audio and short-form video, or test a different format for your most popular content.
Own your audience
Facebook’s social media blackout in September taught a hard lesson to many business owners who are exclusively using Facebook, Instagram, and Messenger to communicate with their community. The lesson was, you don’t actually own your social media audience!
We expect to see a resurgence of email marketing with the continued growth of text communication between brands and customers in 2022. We encourage you to invest some time into building your own email lists to make sure you’re always able to connect with your customers and not be dependent on social media as your only means of communication.
Don’t forget about traditional media
With all of the new features and trends, it’s easy for us to forget about where it all started. Before social media, we used traditional media to market our businesses. Traditional media is comprised of: radio, billboards, television and outdoor. Although it may seem like social media is the hottest form of marketing, these other media outlets still exist and account for a large number of the consumer population. Not to mention, like email lists, traditional media gives you that extra layer of communication to your audience in the event our beloved social media crashes… again.
We’re looking forward to what 2022 will bring in terms of marketing because 2021 was surely one for the books. With the introductions of new features and updates across all platforms, the new year is sure to bring on even more for us to experiment with. In the mean time, we suggest you start implementing some of these top trends as you close out your year and plan for the next!
