The Important People

As a close friend of mine pointed out- I have been so busy promoting my clients that my own promotion has fallen short. This was a huge sign to me, because
I have a friend that pays enough attention to me, my business, and its well-being…and isn’t afraid to get me back on track. And for that, I am grateful.

What does this have to do with marketing and advertising? Everything. You want a team that supports you and your growth and that you can return the favor for! Bonus: people want to do business with you when you are warm to them!

Reflecting on those positive, supportive people in your life helps when you try to eliminate some of the “noise” that can take place as a business owner hustling towards those goals. You want people around you that:

  • Aren’t offended if you have to check your phone during the meeting (especially if you are like myself, responsible for the growth of an organization via media where things are changing by the second).
  • A family that observes home office time just as they would if you were in your office.
  • Network connections that invite you to events.
  • Distancing yourself from the negative people comes along with this. While this process is not as pleasant, it works out in the long run. I talk about this a lot in my circle, just at dinner last night. We tend to feel bad about it…but these are dead weights and you will not be able to work with people that are not open to working with you.

I have met some pretty amazing people along the way, recently a writer who was very inspiring to me and my personal trainer who is so darn positive, how could I possibly loathe the sessions? I keep these gold nuggets very close. I reach out to them to thank them, see what they are up to, and provide encouragement – any relationship you are in is a two-way street and this includes professional ones! Even if the networking relationship is not being utilized at that moment, I keep these folks in mind for referrals when the opportunity arises.
